Tarbert Guide To Highland Games

Argyll is famous for its festivals; highland games, highland dancing, and Scottish country music, to name a few. If you plan to visit during these times, you are strongly advised to book your accommodation well in advance as during the festivals there is an over whelming demand for accommodation. The festivals are all very well attended and people come from far and wide as these festivals are an established part of the Scottish festivals calendar. Most of the festivals have highland games, highland dancing, and music. Some of these festivals are listed below.

Argyllshire Gathering, Oban

The Argyllshire Gathering is one of the oldest of the Highland Gatherings in Scotland. It is held every year, usually on the fourth Thursday of August. Argyll is a large, sparsely populated county, with its people spread over long distances from each other. The Argyllshire Gathering was established in the 19th Century to bring families together and socialise. The Oban Games are organised by the Argyllshire Gathering’s members, as an event to bring people in Argyll together and as a way to promote highland sport and culture through competition. The Gathering is renowned for its highland games and music.
